Board of Selectmen
The Board of Selectmen’s formal, legal responsibilities are throughout State statues and are within the Town’s bylaws. The Board operates as a collective decision-making body on Town related matters. The Board of Selectmen have general supervision over all matters that not specifically delegated by law, or by vote of the Town, to another officer or Board. The Board of Selectmen is considered the “Executive Board” in local government. While the specific role of Selectmen is broad, generally, the Selectmen have several important responsibilities under State statutes including but not limited to…
- The authority to prepare the Town meeting warrant
- The authority to make appointments to Town Boards and Offices
- The authority to employ professional administrative staff and Town Counsel
- The authority to sign warrants for the payment of all Town bills
- The authority to grant licenses and permits
The day-to-day operations of the Town are vested with the Town Administrator which is appointed by the Board. The Warren Board of Selectmen is comprised of three members, with one member being elected every May.
Generally, the Board of Selectmen meets every other Thursday at 6:00pm with meetings being held usually on the first floor at the Shepard Municipal Building located at 48 High Street. Occasionally the Board will hold special or more frequent meetings during the year. Most meetings are open to the public or can be viewed on Warren Community Access Television PEG Channel or on YouTube . All meetings comply with the State’s Open Meeting Law requirements.
