Sewer Commission
The Warren Sewer Commission oversees the operations and maintenance of the Town’s public sewer system and water pollution control plant. The Sewer Department is Enterprise-funded, which means that this department’s operating revenue comes from sewer user fees. The elected Board of Sewer Commissioners typically holds morning meetings on the second and fourth Wednesdays of the month, but meetings are sometimes scheduled at other dates or times. Anybody who wishes to be put on the agenda of an upcoming Sewer Commission meeting should notify the Sewer Commission office at least one week prior to the meeting date.
Properties that are connected to Town Sewer are billed at a rate based on the typical usage of an Equivalent Dwelling Unit (1 EDU=1 single-family home, apartment, small commercial space). Billing is done by the July 1 through June 30 fiscal year instead of by the January 1 through December 31 calendar year. Most accounts are billed twice a year, in August and in February. This means that the flat fee EDU rate for the fiscal year is divided into two bills. For example, if the annual rate per EDU is $670, there will be two bills of $335 each for a single-family home.
Residents reporting a sewer blockage or overflow should call the Wastewater Treatment plant directly at 774-452-1099 instead of calling the Sewer Commission office at the Shepard Building. If a blockage or break originates in the Town’s sewer main, it is the Town’s responsibility to correct it. Blockages or breaks of a sewer lateral are the responsibility of the owner of the property serviced by that lateral.
